RSCDS Toronto – Core Events: 2011-2012

Monthly Dances

RSCDS Toronto sponsors Monthly Dances. Monthly dances are, typically, but not always,
the 2nd Saturday of each month, September to April. We have the great pleasure of dancing
to live music provided by the best Scottish Country Dance musicians in North America.
The admission fee includes light refreshments at the Interval. All dances are briefed,
and are usually walked through once. Dance Instructions will be posted here.
Brief sheets are available at the door, and Dance Briefs are posted here when available.

* Members - $22 (includes HST) * Non Members - $28 (includes HST)
* Student Members (18-25yrs) - $10 * Youth (under 18yrs) - $5
* Spectators - $5

Monthly Dances are almost always at Crescent School, 2365 Bayview Ave.,
which is north of Lawrence Ave. E, 1st light north of the long bridge, opposite the Granite Club.
There is ample parking on the Crescent School site. ( Map to Crescent School.)

Toronto's 49th Tartan Ball will be: 18 February 2012

Here are some nice pictures of the 2010 Tartan Ball.

Every February (since 1964) RSCDS Toronto holds its gala Tartan Ball in the Edwardian splendour of the Concert Hall of the Fairmont Royal York Hotel, Toronto. Following an elegant meal, while the ballroom is cleared, dancers don their ghillies. Non-dancers retire to the balcony to watch the proceedings.

Dancers are piped back into the ballroom in a Grand March; the first dance is announced; sets are counted; the band strikes a chord; and the dancing begins. There are two Intervals, and the fun goes on into the "wee sma' hours".

Rehearsals for the Tartan Ball are held prior to the event.

The Toronto Workshop: 10 Nov 2012

The Toronto Workshop is an annual tradition for those who wish to experience new teachers and learn to improve their technique.

The workshop has classes for dancers of all levels, and youth (14+) are welcome as well. You'll have three classes, one with each teacher, a nice lunch, and a combined class, which is always great fun.

The November Monthly Dance is held the same evening 8pm - 10, and it's part of your Workshop package.

It will be a great day of dance!

Contact: Valerie Fisher (416) 497-4186

Dancing In The Park: Each Tuesday in June 2012

The co-ordinator for Dancing In The Park is Donalda McDonald (416) 757-6739; Graham Anderson (416) 406-6368. The em-cee is Jean Noble.

The Scottish Accent provides live music.

Tuesday evenings in June, Toronto Scottish Country Dancers enjoy outdoor dancing at Edwards Gardens, which is in Don Mills, south of Lawrence, just west of Leslie. Here's a static aerial view. Here's a live Google map.

The sound of jigs, reels and strathspeys from a live band pervades the area. One avid dancer signed up for courses because she heard the wonderful music from her garden. Spectators are always welcome - bring a lawn chair.

Click here for pictures and a lively write-up about the May 29th, 2007 DITP.

Dancing in the Park begins at 7:00pm and goes 'til dusk.

Edward's Gardens (confusingly signed "Toronto Botanical Garden" at some gates) is at Leslie & Lawrence E. -- the south-west quadrant. We dance at the north side, behind the snack bar/barn.
