Erin Mills Scottish Country Dancing

Scottish Country Dancing is the traditional ballroom dancing of Scotland. It has been in existence for centuries whether as a formal ball for royalty or as a social gathering in a kitchen.Ý Neither is it restricted to those of Scottish birth or lineage, these days Scottish Country Dancing is enjoyed all round the world for fun, sociability and exercise.

Why not come and try it here in Mississauga. A series of classes over the winter months costs less than a weekly visit to the movies. You don't have to bring a partner. The form of the dance gives dancers an opportunity to mix and make new acquaintances.

Although classes stop for the summer months, there are many opportunities to get together with friends for Scottish Country Dancing in and round Toronto. Several groups get together to dance at Highland Games and Scottish Festivals. This picture is of Orillia Scottish Festival, held in July.

As you become more interested in Scottish Country Dancing, you discover weekend classes near and far. This is a group of us at a workshop in Pawling, New York.

Come and join the fun!

A new dancer needs only a good pair of soft soled shoes or they may purchase an inexpensive pair of dancing slippers (ballet slippers for the ladies, ghillies for the men). Acquiring a kilt or a fancy ball gown is not necessary.

The Erin Mills Scottish Country Dance Group hosts several levels: adult beginners, adult intermediate, youth and children's.

The adult classes are held at Cooksville United Church on Mimosa Row near Hurontario and Dundas, Mississauga.

The beginner class is on Tuesdays from 7.30pm until 10.15pm September through May. The intermediate class is held at the same location but on Fridays at 8.00pm.
