Sunday, Sept 5 - The Empire Sandy Sails Scottish

How would you like spent an afternoon with friends, sail Lake Ontario and take in the CNE International Air Show ! If this pique's your interest, the Scottish Studies Foundation invites you join us on our annual Tall Ship Cruise aboard "Empire Sandy". Sailings at 11:00 am and 2:00 pm. Cost: $20 (advance price). More info on the Scottish Studies website. The afternoon sailing is especially popular because it offers great views of the Air Show so, if you are interested, please book early. Friday, Sept 17 - Ceilidh Dances are Back!

Pure dead brilliant FUN is promised by ceilidh leader Ian Paterson. No previous experience needed, no worries about footwork or fancy formations. Anyone with soft shoes, a reasonable level of fitness, and an open, happy spirit can dance ceilidh. Ceilidh classes are an outreach initiative. Members are urged to conscript friends and neighbours to experience the joy of Scottish dancing 7:30 - 9:30pm at St. Leonard’s Anglican Church, 25 Wanless Avenue, two blocks north of Lawrence Station on the Yonge subway. Cost is $10 for adults, $5 for students and $2 for children. Contact: Carole Bell 416-221-1201.

Saturday, Sept 18 - Lindsay Scottish Festival

The Lindsay Scottish Festival presents: The Sound of Scotland, feauturing the Pipes and Drums of Lindsay, Claidhmor (a Scottish folk quartet with our own Stewart Bennett of the Wee Tartan Shop in Port Perry), Celtic PowerHouse, The Caledonian Dancers and The Scottish Dance Company of Canada. 8pm at the Academy Theatre for Performing Arts, Lindsay. Children: $10, General: $20, Seniors: $15.

Saturday, Sept 25 - The Season's First Monthy Dance

Folks, it's been a long drought. . . pretty much 5 months since the last Monthly Dance! Get back in the groove, with great music from Don Bartlett & The Scottish Heirs. 8:00-10:30pm at Crescent School. Host groups are Bloorlea, Fallingbrook, and South Simcoe. Costs this year include the new HST: Members $22; non-Members $28; Students (18-25) $10; Youth and Spectators $5.

Oct 30 - RSCDS Burlington 37th Annual Dance

Saturday, Nov 13 - Toronto Association Workshop

The Workshop will be held at the Toronto French School with the evening dance at the Crescent School. Teachers are David Booz, Toronto; Margo Priestley, West Lothian, Scotland; Ruth Taylor, Brockville. Musicians are Don Bartlett, Bobby Brown, and Laird Brown.

Bobby Brown & The Scottish Accent return to the Crescent School stage for this Monthly Dance. . . a fitting conclusion to a day of dance fun at the Toronto Workshop. Entry is prepaid if you opted for the full Workshop package. Otherwise Members $22; non-Members $28; Students (18-25) $10; Youth and Spectators $5. (HST included in all prices quoted.).

Saturday, Nov 27 - St Andrew's Ball

The 2010 St Andrew's Ball will be held at the FAIRMONT ROYAL YORK HOTEL. Co-Hosts are the St. Andrew's Society of Toronto and the 48th Highlanders of Canada. If you are already on the St. Andrew's Members' mailing list, you will automatically receive the Application Form in the mail (in September). The Application Form will also be posted here when it becomes available. Ceilidh Dance practices at Moss Park Armoury November 9, 16, 23, at 8pm. Country Dance practice November 9, 23 at 7:30pm. Saturday, Feb 12 - Wacky Tacky Beach Party

Not flying south to Florida for February? Travel, instead, to our Wacky Tacky Beach Party and banish the winter “blahs”. Plan your “beachwear” for the Fashion Parade (PRIZES!) and partake in an afternoon of fun which will include EASY Scottish country dances and picnic fare. 2:00 - 5:00pm at Westway United Church, 8 Templar Drive, Kipling, north of Eglinton. Upcoming Events (Far Away)

Sept 24-26 - Scottish Weekend at Timber Ridge Camp, West Virginia

Scottish Weekend emphasizes the best in live music, fine teaching, and "controlled abandon." We begin Friday night with supper and a welcome dance. Two morning classes and one in the afternoon are offered on Saturday, followed by time to relax, swim in the pool, shop for Scottish goods, have a massage, and socialize. That evening, our piper leads a grand march to start an elegant, full-dress ball. After another class on Sunday morning, participants gather for the popular combined class, then lunch and farewells until next year. There will be a ceilidh after the Ball on Saturday. Scottish Country Dance focused on Basic and Social dancing and Technique will be led by each of the three guest dance teachers: Bruce Hamilton, Linda Henderson, and Janet Walker. On Saturday afternoon, dancers may select one of the specialty classes offered by the teachers. Classes will be accompanied by our staff musicians. Oct 1, 2, 3 - Ottawa Valley Weekend

Scottish Country Dancers are invited to Ottawa for a weekend full of events.  Musicians Deby Benton Grosjean (fiddle), Andy Imbrie (piano) and David Brewer (bagpipes, whistles), all from California, will start with a concert on Friday evening. Workshop classes with guest teachers David Queen (UK), Rebecca Blackhall-Peters (BC), and Kate Walker (TX) will run Saturday -- followed by a reception, dinner and Gala dance.  On Sunday morning there will be a combined class.
