May 13 - Beginner's Night at Hillcrest

Hillcrest dancers are a friendly lot and we want to share the joy of the dance with Beginners. Jean Noble promises this will be a special evening of easy-but-fun dances from the Dancing In The Park programme. Hillcrest regulars will be on hand to provide plenty of strong and cheerful partners. May 14 - Glenview's Spring Dance

Glenview Scottish Dancers will close the season again with its ever popular Spring Dance. Again this year, dancers will enjoy the music of Bobby & Laird Brown and sample delighful tasty treats. May 23-25 - Stoney Lake Weekend

Peterborough Scottish Country Dance Society invites you to attend the 24th Stoney Lake Weekend at beautiful Irwin Inn. May 27 - Dancing In The Park begins at Edward's Gardens

Spring is in the heart, and in the step, as we get ready for that annual treat -- Dancing In The Park. At Edward's Gardens, Leslie and Lawrence Avenue E. (Some signs say Toronto Botanical Gardens but they are within Edwards Gardens so not to worry.) Lots of free parking. The last Tuesday in May and every Tuesday in June we dance in the meadow behind the barn on the north edge. Extension Classes are recommended for Beginners. We'll have wonderful music by Bobby Brown & The Scottish Accent. May 21 - St Andrew's of Brampton End-of-season Dance

St Andrew's of Brampton will close the season with a dance at the Chris Gibson Rec Centre, 125 McLaughlin Rd, Brampton. Dancing starts promptly at 7.30pm; cost $5 at the door. June 6 - Erin Mills "Ladies' Night" to celebrate end of season

June 7 - The Banks 'o Couchiching Scottish Ball

Orillia Scottish Country Dancers invite you to join us at our 6th annual Banks o’ Couchiching Scottish Ball. We'll be dancing in the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 34, overlooking beautiful Lake Couchiching in downtown Orillia. Great music by the legendary Bobby Brown & The Scottish Accent. June 14 - Georgetown Highland Games

Dancers wanted to participate in the mass demonstration of the games. Assemble near the main field at 11:00am for a practice and to be placed in sets. The dances are A Jig for Mrs. Dunn, Seann Triubhas Willichan, and Flowers of Edinburgh (All danced three times). Show time is immediately after the opening ceremonies, around 1:15pm. June 14-15 - Canadian International Military Tattoo

Thrill to the Spectacular Sights and Sounds of Hamilton's 17th Annual International Tattoo. Tap your toes to the musical strains of marching bands, pipes and drums and some of the world's finest military and civilian performers. The 2008 theme honours the 400th anniversary of the founding of Québec City. We pay special tribute to the Royal 22e Régiment, currently on active service in Afghanistan. At Copps Coliseum. July 8 - Blue Jays' Scottish Night

Aug 10 - 17 - TAC Summer School

36th annual Teachers' Association of Canada Summer School at Sir Wilfrid Laurier University, Waterloo. This event is not just for teachers, nor do you have to book all aspects of the programme. You can pick and choose, to some extent, the extent of your participation. Download the brochure. Also, visit the TAC website for more information and Registration Form. Nov 8 - Toronto Workshop

Join us for our annual Toronto Workshop on Saturday, November 8, 2008 at the Toronto French School. As in past years, the day will consist of 3 workshops and a group class in addition to the evening dance. There will be vendors to entice you, a wonderful lunch and most of all, dancing with your RSCDS friends.
Our teachers this year will be Fiona Grant from Bristol, Claire Collier from Dundas, and Fiona Philip from Toronto. Music will be provided by the wonderful Bobby & Laird Brown and Don Bartlett.

May 16-18- Pawling Weekend

The New York Branch of the Royal Scottish Country Dance Society invites you to our 45th Annual Spring Weekend at Circle Lodge, Hopewell Junction, NY.

It will begin with a buffet supper at 6:00 PM on Friday, May 16th, and end at 3:15 PM on Sunday, May 18th. We are delighted to have Jean Martin from Bieldside, Aberdeen, Scotland; and Muriel Johnstone and Bill Zobel from Courtney, British Columbia, Canada, as our teachers. We will have the exciting music of Bobby Brown & The Scottish Accent at our Saturday Night Highland Ball, our Friday night Welcome Dance, and our classes! Jim Stevenson-Mathews of the New York Branch will play for classes as well. Saturday and Sunday classes will be at the Experienced Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced levels.

July 7-11 - Haliburton Summer School

Haliburton School of the Arts offers a week of Scottish Country dance Instruction in beautiful cottage country. Choice of three levels: Novice, Intermediate, or Advanced. The course consists of five days of instruction in the four facets of Scottish Country Dancing: music, footwork, formations and the dance. Classes are taught by Duncan and Maggie Keppie, of Wolfville, NS, who have instructed at Haliburton for 13 years. $252.70 per course. On the Saturday following, students are invited to demo at the Haliburton Highland Games, and attend a festive evening of Scottish Country Dance. July 20 - Aug 17 - Summer School at St Andrews, Scotland

Each summer folk from all around the world gather at the beautiful seaside university town of St Andrews to improve their Scottish Country dance technique. Dancers stay in university residences and are offered a varied programme of instruction. The teachers and musicians are world class - so is the fun. Applications for Summer School are available on the RSCDS Headquarters website. A range of scholarships is available, particularly (but not exclusively) for young people. Scholarships must be supported by a nominee and supporter and a letter of recommendation from a Branch. Sept 19 - 21 - Scottish Weekend -- West Virginia

Scottish Weekend, Inc. emphasizes the best in live music, fine teaching, good food, and "controlled abandon." We begin Friday night with supper and a welcome dance. Two morning classes and one in the afternoon are offered on Saturday, followed by time to relax, swim in the pool, shop for Scottish goods, have a massage, and socialize. That evening, our piper leads us from our cabins to an elegant full-dress ball. After another class on Sunday morning, all participants gather for the popular combined class, then lunch and farewells until next year. Sept 30 - A Canadian Welcome to Colin Dewar and His SCD Band -- London, ON

October 3-5 - Ottawa Valley Dance Scottish - Workshop & Ball

Join us in Ottawa for a dance event sure to be a memorable weekend! Mark your calendar and come enjoy the spectacular fall colours in Ottawa. Guest teachers are Ruth Jappy (Delta, BC) and Helen & Malcolm Brown (York, England). Music will be by Colin Dewar and his SCD Band (Stirling, Scotland).

The weekend kicks off with a Welcome dance Friday evening, with a mix of SCD and some Old Time Dancing with Ruth Jappy. Saturday there will be three class levels to choose from; basic, intermediate and advanced. Saturday evening will feature a Gala dinner and dance to the lively music of Colin and his Band. Sunday morning we will join for a combined class followed by lunch. Teachers will have a chance to get together in the afternoon for a class of their own.

All events will be held at Ashbury College, a private boarding school in the beautiful Rockcliffe neighbourhood of Ottawa, just minutes away from the Parliament Buildings and Governor General's Residence.

October 3-5 - Saskatchewan Branch Annual Workshop - Manitou Beach

The Annual Saskatchewan Branch Workshop will be at Manitou Beach (1 hr east of Saskatoon). Guests are recommended to stay at the beautiful Manitou Springs Resort and Mineral Spa, a modern 102-room hotel attached to a mineral water spa. We will dance at spacious, historic Danceland, a lakeside pavilion built in 1923. The floor is perhaps the last remaining horsehair-sprung dancefloor in Canada. Dancing on this 5000 sq ft surface is a joy. One look and you'll want to join us for the weekend. Teachers are Elinor Vandegrift from Washington state and John Middleton from Hamilton, Ontario.
